The second “Video Game Law Summit” (VGLS) took place in Shanghai on July 30, 2025, during ChinaJoy week, turned out to be a tremendous success.
This full-day event brought together 140 participants, including 22 speakers and 26 foreign guests, representing 12 different countries. Notably, approximately 65% of participants were in-house counsel from leading game companies, making for a highly engaged and practice-oriented audience. The daylong event focused on the compliance challenges and opportunities that Chinese game companies often face when expanding overseas.
The VGLS conference featured a series of insightful panels, including a general counsel talk on the evolving role of in-house legal teams, as well as discussions on international expansion, online child safety, cross-border IP protection, player contracts, and consumer protection in virtual economies. Our Founding Partner Greg Pilarowski, and Partner Chao Yu participated in the panel discussions.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Video Game Bar Association (“VGBA”) and the Shanghai Multimedia Industry Association (“MIA”) for co-organizing this event. Special thanks to Amy Allison, the Executive Director of VGBA and Haoxia Ming, the Secretary General of MIA.
We also thank the co-sponsors for making this event possible: Tencent, Pillar Legal, City-Yuwa Partners, k-ID, Linklaters and Rajah & Tann Asia.
